MIT OpenCourseWare shares openly licensed MIT teaching materials with millions of learners around the world. In addition to sharing syllabi, reading lists, problem sets, design assignments, rubrics, etc., many MIT faculty members also explicitly make their pedagogical thinking visible by sharing their teaching experiences, ideas, and approaches through the OCW Educator project. In this session, I’ll share this faculty-inspired initiative designed to pull back the curtain on MIT teaching. I’ll provide a brief tour of OCW Educator, including how it got started and what the site looks like today, and share 10 tips for encouraging educators to make their pedagogical thinking visible. The session will inspire others to enhance their open sharing projects with instructor insights and will provide logistical tips for doing this kind of work effectively. We will conclude with a participant-led conversation about how we can more strategically and systematically encourage educators to make their thinking visible through instructor insights publications.
